FAQ for Corvid Community

Am I eligible for Corvid Community?

Are you a visual artist working in the commercial space? Perhaps an illustrator, animator, digital artist or crafter? Then yes! In fact, it doesn’t matter if you’re exhibiting at MoMA or halfway through art school, Community was made specifically for you.

As a team of commercial art producers and agents, we live and breathe this stuff and we’ve set up Community to share our knowledge and support freelance creatives.

Sadly, although we know the creative community is made up of a much wider array of professions, we can really only cater to commercial visual artists at the moment. It’s not that we don’t love and appreciate all sorts, but we want to make sure all our content is targeted towards the people who will find it most helpful. That means focusing on our area of expertise. So we ask you to fill out a form to make sure those joining the group are in the right place.

We’re always planning for ways to support a wider variety of people and hopefully in the future we’ll be able to offer more services to more of you. In the meantime we’d love to connect with you in other ways! Please always feel free to reach out to us via email or our socials. Our door is always open.

How do I apply?

That’s an easy one! Just head here and fill out the form.

Who runs Corvid Community? Why are they doing this?

Corvid and all its services (Community, Consult and Companion) is powered by our seasoned team at The Jacky Winter Group—a creative representation and production company based in Melbourne and New York.

Since 2007 Jacky Winter has proudly and fiercely carved paths for talented freelance artists to collaborate with agencies and clients of all kinds. Representing a roster of 100+ artists across the globe, we’ve negotiated and produced over 10,000 commissions for an infinite variety commercial applications. At the core of Jacky Winter and Corvid is a devotion to creating a healthy creative ecosystem—one in which artists can thrive and earn a livelihood doing what they love.

Over the 12 years of Jacky Winter's existence, we’ve received countless requests from artists outside the roster for help on various aspects of their careers and projects. As one of the only groups with the experience and know-how to truly help these artists, we’ve long considered how we could bring our knowledge and support to a broader commercial art community in situations where full representation isn’t needed (or feasible for whatever reason). And so we devised Corvid — a platform offering a range of services to artists at all stages of their careers.

We believe in the power in numbers and the importance of a strong and knowledgeable support network. Corvid Community hopefully provides just that. If you want to read more about Corvid and where we’ve come from, head to our about page.

Do I have to use Slack to be a part of the group? How do I use it?

Yep. But you’ll love it! We chose Slack for this platform because it’s designed perfectly for big teams of people to connect and share information. We use Slack in the Jacky Winter and Corvid offices and couldn’t live without it. It also integrates with all sorts of nifty tools that we use to make the Slack experience even better. If you need help with using it, you can head to the Slack help centre for heaps of handy guides.

How much does it cost to join?

Membership to Corvid Community is subscription-based and is $9AUD per month. This fee allows us to keep the place running, moderate channels and generate the professional development materials you’ll find there. You can cancel your subscripion at any time.

How do I cancel my subscription?

If the time comes to cancel your subscription for any reason, send a message on Slack to one of our admins and they’ll deactivate your account and stop your auto-payments. You can also shoot us an email at community@corv.id. if you prefer.

Are there any rules for how I can use the group?

There are! We have a code of conduct that sets expectations for how Community members engage with each other, ensuring it remains safe, welcoming and useful. These rules uphold the shared values of respect, knowledge-sharing, inclusivity, and industry sustainability that Corvid Community is founded on. It’s common sense stuff, but we’ve put it in a document we encourage every member to read. You can check it out here.

Will I be able to see all discussion history in the Slack group?

The Slack plan we’re on lets members send unlimited messages, but only the most recent 10,000 are searchable and viewable. Over time (and as the group grows) we hope to upgrade to an unlimited plan so you’ll be able to access all of the discussion history. In the meantime, if you want to make sure you’ll be able to reference something later, we suggest you screenshot it or save the information elsewhere.
